  • Chaire de recherche sur la transition vers la durabilité des grandes cultures

    Les travaux de recherche-action menés à chaire de recherche UQAM pour la Transition vers la durabilité des grandes cultures vise à réduire drastiquement la dépendance de la production industrielle de céréales et d'oléagineux aux intrants chimiques comme les pesticides et les engrais de synthèse, tout en maintenant de hauts rendements. L'équipe interdisciplinaire de la chaire aborde, en collaboration avec des producteurs et des représentants gouvernementaux, des questions de maintien des fonctions des sols, de préservation de la qualité des eaux des zones agricoles, de rentabilité à long terme des cultures. Des modèles dynamiques socio-économico-environnementaux sont développés pour envisager les conditions d'adoption à large échelle de pratiques alternatives durables comme la permaculture, tant au Québec qu'ailleurs dans le monde, au Brésil en particulier.

  • Réactivité de la matière organique terrigène: application à la dynamique de systèmes environnementaux complexes

    Mes recherches s'appuient sur la synergie de deux axes complémentaires: 1) l'un "vertical" visant à comprendre la réactivité géochimique de composés organiques spécifiques dans des environnements contrastés, comme par exemple les composés ligneux et les sucres, et 2) l'autre "transversal" appliquant ces connaissances à la compréhension de la dynamique de problématiques environnementales complexes comme l'exposition de populations aux métaux lourds, la production de gaz à effet de serre depuis des milieux aquatiques perturbés (coupes forestières, réservoirs) ou encore les effets à moyen terme de l'utilisation d'herbicides à base de glyphosate (round up) sur la fertilité des sols agricoles et la qualité des céréales produites.

    Vise à instaurer à une échelle régionale des pratiques agro-forestières durables en Amazonie brésilienne;

  • Chercheur principal du projet SABRE (Salix en Agriculture pour des Bandes Riveraines Énergétiques),

    Vise à évaluer l'efficacité de bandes riveraines pour limiter les transferts d'engrais chimiques et de pesticides depuis les champs de maïs ou de soja de la plaine du St Laurent vers les cours d'eau.
